Books To Read This Winter

I thought I'd put together a little post about all the books I think you should definitely read throughout Winter, there's definitely a few of my all time favourite books on here and because I'm just that nice I even popped a little bit about the books below!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

A Court of Thorns Roses - Feyre's survival rests upon her ability to hunt and kill - the forest where she lives is a cold, bleak place in the long winter months. So when she spots a deer in the forest being pursued by a wolf, she cannot resist fighting it for the flesh. But to do so, she must kill the predator and killing something so precious comes at a price...

The Charm Bracelet - Many years ago she was sent one with just a single charm attached. The charms have been appearing ever since, often at challenging times, as if her mysterious benefactor knows exactly when she needs a little magic in her life. As a result, Holly's bracelet is her most prized possession. So when she finds someone else's charm bracelet, she feels she has to try to reunite it with its owner. Even if the only clues she has to follow are the charms themselves. On a search that will take her all over New York City at Christmas, Holly becomes ever more determined to piece together the details of this other charmed life. But what she doesn't know is that her quest may also lead her somewhere she never, ever expected...

Let It Snow - An ill-timed storm on Christmas Eve buries the residents of Gracetown under multiple feet of snow and causes quite a bit of chaos. One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train and sets off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. Over the next three days one girl takes a risky shortcut with an adorable stranger, three friends set out to win a race to the Waffle House (and the hash brown spoils), and the fate of a teacup pig falls into the hands of a lovesick barista.

I Heart Christmas - Angela’s planning her very own fairytale of New York...

• Enormous Christmas tree
• Eggnog
• Eccentric British traditions
• Gorgeous man

But Santa’s throwing her a few curveballs – new job (as if it’s not mental enough already), new baby-craze from her best friend Jenny, and Alex determined they should grow up and settle down. Once friends start turning up uninvited on her doorstep (and leading her astray), can Angela really have a merry little Christmas? So much for happy holidays – something’s got to give...

What Light - Sierra's family runs a Christmas tree farm in Oregon - it's an idyllic place for a girl to grow up, except that every year they have to pack up and move to California to set up their Christmas tree lot for the season. So Sierra lives two lives: her life in Oregon and her life at Christmas. And leaving one always means missing the other. Until this particular Christmas, when Sierra meets Caleb, and one life begins to eclipse the other...

The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily - Dash and Lily have been dating for nearly a year, but when Lily’s beloved grandfather falls ill, the repercussions take their toll on everyone. Even though they are still together, somehow the magic has gone out of their relationship and it’s clear that Lily has fallen out of love with life. Action must be taken! Dash teams up with Lily’s brother and a host of their friends, who have just twelve days to get Lily’s groove back in time for Christmas. A warm, wintry read that is guaranteed to be a favourite Christmas book for many years to come.

Christmas Cupcakes

Because it's so close to Christmas - EEEEEEK - I decided to pop up a little baking post of a few cupcakes I've made recently. I didn't actually use a full on cupcake recipe for 12 cakes for this post I used this one here for two cupcakes but I manged to make 3 and then re did the recipe again to make another 3 because I didn't want to have 12 cupcakes lying around going 'eat me, eat me'...

So here's what you'll need for these cute cakes!

Christmas Log Cupcakes

Ingredients:
1 Egg White
2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar (I used Caster Sugar)
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
Icing Sugar
Water
Flakes
Silver Cupcake Cases

Instructions:
1. Mix the butter and sugar together in an electric mixer until light and fluffy
2. Add in the Egg White, Flour, Baking Powder and Vanilla Extract and mix together until all combined
3. Add in a dash of milk just so the mixture is slightly more smooth
4. Spoon into cupcake cases and pop into the oven until golden brown on the top or until the skewer comes out clean.
5. Leave cakes until completely cooled and make the Icing.
6. For the Icing you'll need Icing Sugar and Water
7. Pour some Icing Sugar into a bowl and add a tiny bit of water at a time, this is the best method for me as I find it goes too runny if too much water is added at once so I add a tiny bit at a time until I think the icing is thick enough
8. Spread onto the Cupcakes
9. Break the flakes into halves and pop onto the middle of the cake, sprinkle with Icing Sugar to finish!

Marshmallow Snowmen Cupcakes
(Mine went a lil bit wrong but now he's a smirking melting snowman)

Ingredients:
1 Egg White
2 Tablespoons Granulated Sugar (I used Caster Sugar)
2 Tablespoons Butter
1 Teaspoon Vanilla
1 1/2 tablespoons milk
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
White Marshmallows
Chocolate Piping Icing
Silver Cupcake Case

9. Pop on a White marshmallow wherever you want the snowman to be and then just use a bit of brown or black icing and draw on the face!

Angel & Cookies Box Review

So as you know (possibly) I mainly eat gluten free, especially when it comes to cakes & biscuits and I got the chance to review this sample box from Angels & Cookies*. These cookies are Wheat, Gluten, Egg & Milk free so it's a life saver if you suffer an allergy from any of these.

In the Sample Box I was given: 3 Cookies in the flavours: Chocolate Fudge Cookie Dough, Ginger & Spice and Chocolate Chip, along with Animal Crackers and a tub of Cookie Dough.

I really enjoyed the Chocolate Fudge Cookie along with the Chocolate Chip one but I actually didn't like the Ginger & Spice one too much, Ginger and Spice really aren't my thing so I'd avoid those ones but I definitely enjoyed the other two, they were so tasty!

The animal crackers are also adorable, they also come on the same flavours as the other 3, again, I wasn't a total fan of these but they were nice but I don't think I'd personally purchase them.
The Cookie Dough Tub you receive is really easy to use, it's simple instructions, you literally grab the cookie dough, roll it into ball shapes, pop onto a baking tray and put them into the oven for the said time on the side!

Overall I really think this Angel & Cookies Box is a really good thing if you suffer with allergies and you want to curb those cravings! (Trust me, I know the feeling! But these are definitely worth a go!

Gluten Free Chocolate Biscuits

Recently I'd been having such a craving for a proper chocolate biscuit but being GF it's a bit more difficult to pop to the shop and grab some, so I had a search around and found a recipe here ( I changed it up a bit) and decided to have a go at baking them and they were DELICIOUS. I absolutely loved them, they were exactly what I wanted and they were so nice with a glass of milk. I didn't leave mine in until they were completely hard I took them out whilst they were still slightly softer so the inside was crumbly and a bit like a cake, seriously so good. These are the perfect chocolate biscuits to make for around Christmas time, they're super easy to make and take hardly any time!

What You'll Need:
100g Butter (I used Dairy Free Vitalite)
50g Caster Sugar
100g Self Raising Flour (I used Gluten Free Plain Flour - risky I know - but they still turned out good)
1 Tablespoon Cocoa Powder (I used a Cadburys one that didn't contain Milk)

Instructions:

1. Mix the Sugar & Butter together until light and fluffy

2. Stir in Flour and Cocoa Powder

3. Put into a non pre heated oven and watch until baked (I found they turned out more biscuit wise without pre heating the oven and really keeping an eye on them, because when I made a second batch when the oven was really hot, they spread out completely and turned into a cookie biscuit! Which was still good but it wasn't what I was going for!)

4. Leave to cool, and then eat!

This is such a simple recipe that doesn't take up much of your time at all, I also think these could be a cute little Christmas Gift if someone you know is Gluten Free!

Movies To Watch This December

I raided my DVD stash - which is ridiculously big I might add - and grabbed all of my favourite movies to watch throughout December, there's nothing better than getting into the Christmas spirit by watching a few Festive movies, they're the perfect movies to snuggle up and watch with biscuits and a mug of milk, it's literally the best way to relax. Obviously Elf has to be in my top picks, this is literally such a good Christmas Movie and I'm sure you've all watched it by now but if not WATCH IT. You'll feel so festive afterwards! Another of my all time favourite Christmas movies are The Santa Clause ones, these are the movies I constantly watch throughout December (and the rest of the year) I feel SO Christmassy after watching these, I just bloody love them. Definitely my favourite Christmas movies for sure. I also popped in Harry Potter because these movies actually remind me of Christmas, especially the first 2, I love re-watching those throughout December. you can't go wrong with a bit of Harry Potter. Oh also if you have the Sky channel: Christmas 24, watch it, it's my favourite channel this time of year!!

What's your all time favourite Christmas movie?

Heartless by Marrissa Meyer Book Review

'Before she was the queen of hearts all she wanted to do was fall in love'

From the best selling author of The Lunar Chronicles comes Marissa Meyers new book: Heartless. I actually haven't even read the Lunar Chronicles - shocking I know I'll definitely have to add them to my TBR list!

Heartless is based off of the well known story of Alice in Wonderland so if you're a lover of that, you'll definitely enjoy Heartless. Marissa has used her beautiful writing talents and written a whole new World for us to jump into! The story starts off at the Kings party where he's planning on proposing to Cath, her mother's completely aware of what the King is planning and she makes Cath stand out in the Black and White ball by wearing a red gown which is exactly what she gets, the attention. Cath arrives at the ball instantly realising what her mother is up too, but we all know balls don't always go to plan do they?!

Of course not. Enter Jest. The new Court Joker. Jest arrives out of nowhere, no one has even saw or heard of him before, but he turns up unexpectedly at the ball, and Cath takes a liking too him. The ball doesn't go to plan at all as the famous Jabberwock appears out of nowhere and things go downhill from there, the Jabberwock's returned, Cath runs out on the Kings proposal, and her mother is going to do everything to make sure she accepts it and marries the King. Throughout the story the King is determined to make Cath the Queen of Hearts whereas that's not on Cath's plan of things at all, she wants to make her dream come true and own a bakery with her best friend and maid Mary Ann but will the Marchioness and Machioness allow that to happen? Their daughter - Lady Pinkerton - the one they wish to marry the King become an owner of a Bakery? Not likely.

I thoroughly enjoyed this one and definitely think you'll love this if you loved The Lunar Chronicles and Alice in Wonderland.

Gift Guide: Beauty & Books Edition

Another Gift Guide from me today! I've included a few more of my favourite beauty products, the NYX - London Matte Cream really reminds me of MAC's - Velvet Teddy and I've seen so many people talking about these, they'd definitely make a good stocking filler.

Next up is a few products from Burts Bees* these cute little packages are perfect for this time of year, especially because my lips go so dry in the Winter and I know how good Burts Bees are, these are going to keep my lips so hydrated. In the Burts Bees Naturally Nourishing* gift set is a lip balm and a hand cream which is also the perfect added addition because you can never have enough hand creams for the Winter time, you need to keep everything hydrated in this weather. IT'S SO COLD. In the Bit of Burts* gift set you get a lip balm and a little tub of cuticle cream, cute!

Lastly I added a few books that I think would make some really good presents, especially Girl Online: Going Solo - I'm yet to read this one but I know it's such a well loved series so you can't go wrong with this one.

Gift Guide: Beauty Edition

I raided mine and my sisters (itsthebluebow's) beauty stash recently to put together an affordable Beauty Gift Guide. There's various products I included into this gift guide because they're products I absolutely love and definitely think they'd make a great stocking filler. You definitely can't go wrong with MAC's Velvet Teddy, it's a firm favourite of mine and I definitely think it'd suit anybody, especially if they love a good nude lipstick.

As for the Body Fantasies* sprays, these are such cute and affordable sprays, they also smell amazing and they're the perfect size to be able to fit into your handbag and the best bit is the bottles are plastic so you don't have to worry about them smashing!

I obviously couldn't do a gift guide without including Sleek's Solstice Highlight palette because it's the most beautiful highlighter EVER. I also added in another highlighter from I Heart Makeup which is also such a pretty highlight but it's in a cute heart shaped box which just makes it an even better stocking filler.

November Favourites

I'll start with a few beauty favourites I've been really enjoying using last month and that's another Palette from Sleek which is their All Night Long palette, this palette is full of neutral shades and it's such a good palette, it's got all the shades in that you'd to go from an everyday look to a nighttime look, as always with Sleek, their shadows are super pigmented and so worth the money.

Next up is a lip gloss from Rimmel and this might have been in another favourites but I can't remember when so I'm putting it in here anyway, it's in the shade Purr Glossy Cat which is such a pretty nude lip gloss shade and I love a smokey eye and a nude lip so this is the perfect lip gloss for that.

Now for a few Randoms! One channel I've been particularly loving throughout November is of course: Christmas 24! This channel shows the best and most cutest Christmas movies ever, I absolutely love watching them and it's definitely the best time of year when Christmas 24 is back!

Lastly is books and they're the first two books from the Harry Potter series! I've been rereading these over the last few weeks and I've been thoroughly enjoying them.
